FRT Revealer: Tesla's labour times, visible again

Tesla has hidden the flat rate time – the labour hours allotted to each procedure – from the service manuals on service.tesla.com. The value is still in the document. FRT Revealer shows it again, where it always was: right under the correction code.

What happened – and what the extension does

For independent workshops the FRT is the basis of every estimate: it says how many hours Tesla itself allots to a repair. Since Tesla removed the values from the display, that number is missing on every procedure page – yet it is still delivered with each one. It is merely switched invisible by the stylesheet, and the page even ships the switch Tesla uses internally to show the values again.

FRT Revealer flips exactly that switch. Nothing more: the extension loads nothing, converts nothing and adds no numbers of its own. It shows what Tesla sends to your browser, in the page's original layout – including the “FRT” label that Tesla's own stylesheet adds.

How it works

There is nothing to configure. Once installed, every procedure page shows its value by itself.

  1. Install

    Add it from the Chrome Web Store. The extension only needs permission for service.tesla.com and its own settings storage.

  2. Open a manual

    Open a procedure in the service manual as usual. No account is needed; the manuals are freely accessible.

  3. Read the FRT

    The value sits right after the correction code, as it did before it was hidden. Hovering shows the procedure's identifier.

  4. Switch off if you like

    The toolbar icon toggles the display on and off. Optionally the value is highlighted in colour as well.

What is covered – and what is not

The extension can only show what Tesla still sends to the browser. That is not the case everywhere, and we would rather say so up front.

  • Current service manuals

    Model 3 from 2024, Model S and Model X from 2021 (Palladium) are verified. Model Y and the other current manuals use the same documentation pipeline and should behave the same.

  • Model S and Model X 2012–2020

    The legacy manuals never carried the FRT in the document. The value used to come from the correction code search alone – and there it has since been removed on the server.

  • Correction code search

    The search still returns the fields for FRT and procedure link, but empty – for every model, and for signed-in users too. What the server does not send, no browser can show.

Nothing is collected, nothing is sent

FRT Revealer runs on service.tesla.com only, opens no network connection of its own and loads no code. It stores just two settings – on or off, highlight yes or no – in Chrome's own settings storage.

Frequently asked questions

What is the FRT in the first place?
Flat rate time: the labour time in hours that Tesla allots to a service procedure, for example 0.18 h for replacing a seat back panel. It is tied to the procedure's correction code and is the basis of a workshop's estimate and invoice.
Where does the extension get the values from?
From the page itself. Tesla delivers the value with every procedure and only hides it via the stylesheet. The extension sets the display option Tesla's own stylesheet provides for this – it reaches no other source and adds no numbers of its own.
Is this allowed?
The extension changes nothing but the presentation in your own browser. It bypasses no login, no paywall and no technical protection: the values are readable by anyone in the source of a freely accessible page. What you do with the values is governed by Tesla's terms of use, as before.
Why is the FRT missing on my 2018 Model S?
Because the legacy manual never contained it. For Model S and Model X up to 2020 the value came from the correction code search, and Tesla no longer delivers it there. The extension cannot show anything here – there is nothing to show.
Does it work in Firefox or Safari?
No. It is built for Google Chrome and runs in Chromium browsers such as Microsoft Edge, Brave or Vivaldi. Firefox and Safari use different extension formats.
What if Tesla changes the site?
If Tesla sets the values to null on the server, as it already has in the correction code search, the extension shows nothing – the data is simply gone. If Tesla only changes the stylesheet, we adapt the extension. Updates arrive automatically through the Chrome Web Store.
Does the extension cost anything?
No. It is free, without ads and without an account.
